Letter to Scott Jacquard

Scott, I want everyone to see my response to you.

First, I am not going to remove you from any email list. What I am going to do is ask you as an executive board member of our Chamber and what I call the executive buddy board, to tell all of us what you voted on and approved on many of the abuses I have identified. Let's make a deal: I remove you from the email list, you agree to transparency and tell us all what we want to know, since you are on the Executive board.

I can only assume Bill Miles reports to you and other executive board members, correct? Executive Board members and past board members, including you, David Tigges, Paula Bethea, John Vann and others will need to give us answers as we move forward.

  1. Did you approve Bill's recent trip to London to meet the queen?
  2. Did you approve Bill going to China?
  3. Did you approve Bill to go to Pebble Beach?
  4. Did you approve Bills salary?
  5. Do you feel it is okay for almost 1,000 members, at $400 each, to cover just Bill Miles' salary?
  6. Do you feel Bill's salary, travel and pay package is proper and should be equal to the U.S. President?
  7. Do you feel just because other Chamber executives are overpaid, this makes it right for Hilton Head Island?
  8. Do you feel Gov. Haley at $106k is okay?
  9. Do you feel mayor Drew Laughlin being raised to $30k is ok?
  10. Do you feel as well, as Patricia Owen and Bill Miles who sit on the USChamber board, that Tom Donahue the U.S. Chamber of Commerce president of this non-profit, should be salaried at 4.7 m per year along with a chauffeur driven limo and jet, to promote fiscal responsibility for business in America?
  11. Did you approve and feel its okay in hiring a company in Canada versus locally or in USA with our tax dollars?
  12. Who approved the bidding process that allowed this to happen?
  13. Do you feel good we allowed this Chamber to hire services outside our community and state?
  14. Did you approve a $600 per sqft Welcome Center. Who was behind this? I called the architect - he said Bill Miles, who else?
  15. Do you think it's right for this Chamber to unfairly compete with local media members?
  16. Do you feel a board that is appointed with no term limits is better than members having a vote for membership to elect our board with term limits?
  17. Do you feel 26 employees with 75% overhead is the proper way to run a chamber?

We will have more questions for you later. Again, if you feel I am breaking any laws by refusing to remove you from the email list, by all means, have your lawyer call mine. My recommendation again for a good lawyer is David Tigges, past Chairman of this Chamber and seems to still be in charge. He certainly should have all the answers and facts you are missing, as well as other past and current executive board members.

My advice to everyone who sits on this Chamber board who approved and allows the abuses to continue, is don't send me or copy others that you wish to be taken of the truthful and factual email list, requesting transparency from you and others who sit on this board.  You will not be removed, this includes all the lawyers. If all members cannot get transparency according to the bylaws and the two lawyers hired by the Chamber continues to refuse our request for information, then I see nothing but litigation with depositions forthcoming. There is simply no way all this secrecy and refusal for transparency, $400K salaries/travel pay packages, proposed $600 per sqft Welcome Centers, unfair competition against business interests of members and all the rest will be allowed to continue. All past and present board members should be ashamed of themselves to allow all this abuse and doing nothing to fix it. "This will all end" at some point and time.

You've Raised Very Serious Questions

I feel that you have raised some very serious questions about how our Chamber is being run and where the money is being spent to market our island and the businesses that support our Chamber.

Additionally, your questions raise the possibility that the Chamber board is a "hand-picked" board that continues to perpetuate the abuses alleged in your complaints. As such, an independent committee, made up of chamber members, needs to be chosen and convened to address your concerns immediately.

Those are my thoughts and you may advertise them as such.....
